VIDEO: CWS fans being able to tour the Rosenblatt for the last time
Rosenblatt Stadium is coming down. It's been talked about for months, but beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, it becomes a reality.
The Omaha Zoo Foundation has contracted with Anderson Excavating of Omaha for demolition services at the 64-year-old structure. The demolition project is expected to take up to six months to complete.
"There have been a lot of questions about when it would come down," said Calvin Sisson, executive director of the Omaha Zoo Foundation. "We're at a point where we could begin, and Anderson said it was ready to go in earnest."
He pointed out that while the work is being done, it will not affect the zoo itself. "We're not interrupting anything at the zoo. Guests don't have to worry about visiting."
After the stadium is torn down, the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium will construct a commemorative park, Johnny Rosenblatt's Infield at the Zoo.
