Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle remained hospitalized today in Ireland after becoming ill during an economic tour in Europe.

Suttle's office said the mayor admitted himself to a hospital in Naas, Ireland -- one of Omaha's sister cities -- after suffering unspecified symptoms on Friday.

The mayor's spokeswoman Aida Amoura said she spoke with Suttle this morning and "he sounded good."

Suttle was at Naas General Hospital located less than an hour's drive southeast of Dublin.

Amoura said Suttle likely would remain in the hospital until his slightly-high blood pressure was stabilized.

Suttle was at his hotel when he began to feel that something was wrong, she said.

"He just absolutely was not feeling like himself," Amoura said.

Suttle's most recent physical exam was earlier this year, and he received a clean bill of health, Amoura said. He is expected to get a full checkup after returning to Omaha.

Suttle, 68, has spent much of the past week in Lithuania, Germany and Ireland on an economic development tour where Omaha has sister cities.
