Gretna High School's prom may be nearly a year away, but that doesn't mean the post-prom committee is kicking back and relaxing.

The group of parent volunteers who work to offer a fun and safe post-prom usually forms at the end of the school year working through the following April.

"It takes almost a full year of fundraising and planning to make this event a success, including deciding on a theme, a food menu, games, decorations and mementos, and prizes," said committee co-chair Nikki Howell.

Lorri Haskell is the fellow chair.

The committee is working to raise money for food, decorations, prizes and more for next year's event. In past years, Howell said, about $20,000 had to be raised to cover costs of the evening.

Some of the funds will come from the Gretna Days annual co-ed sand volleyball tournament at Spikers Sports & Spirits, 20227 Husker Drive., today and Sunday.

Post-prom has hosted the sand volleyball tournament for six years out of the 26 that the committee has been in Gretna, and each year the event has grown.
