WAHOO, Neb. - Bricks that once made a path for vehicles in downtown Wahoo have a purpose once again.
A new path now carries visitors to the Saunders County Museum between the caboose and the Burlington Depot. The brick walkway installed last week is made from bricks that were removed from a downtown Wahoo street.
Dan Ludvik with M.E. Collins Contracting in Wahoo said the bricks were removed near the intersection of Seventh and Linden Streets several years ago during a street improvement project.
They have been in storage ever since.
"This is a project several years in the making," Museum Volunteer Don Jonas said.
Jonas said that when he saw the historic bricks coming out of the street, he envisioned them getting a new home on the museum grounds. Mike Collins, owner of M.E. Collins Contracting, was agreeable to Jonas' vision and donated not only the bricks but also the manpower and equipment to put in the new walkway.
