Generic drugs a topic for Bluffs science cafe

Pam Miller, director of pharmacy at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, will discuss the differences between generic and brand name prescription medicines at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The free science cafe session will focus on what is safe and effective. Science cafe will be at Barley's Bar and Grill, 114 W. Broadway in the Bluffs.

Blair police offer citizen's academy

The Blair (Neb.) Police Department's fourth annual Citizen's Police Academy will offer local residents a chance to meet with members of the department and attend classes on law enforcement subjects.

Classes will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays from Sept. 6 to Oct. 25 at the department, 1730 Lincoln St. in Blair. Participants also will be able to participate at a firearms range with a certified law enforcement weapons instructor and ride along with a Blair officer on patrol.
