Miranda Hadnot's family was never sure if she would be dragging a friend or a puppy along when she came home for supper.
"She was always bringing stray animals home for our mom to keep," an older sister, Katie Hadnot of Papillion, said Tuesday. "Just last month she brought home a cat she named Kali. Everyone in the family has an animal to take care of now."
The lively and cheerful 19-year-old Papillion woman died Saturday at Creighton University Medical Center after she was injured falling off a personal watercraft at Beaver Lake south of Plattsmouth, Neb. Witnesses told deputies she fell off the craft but was able to climb back on even though she was bleeding.
Hadnot, who was at the lake for a birthday party, died as the result of a ruptured pancreas caused by the fall, her sister said. According to a report from the Cass County Sheriff's Office, neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the accident.
