In the final year of the Devaney Center, the Nebraska men’s basketball program will honor the man who first coached in that building by co-hosting the Joe Cipriano Nebraska Classic.
The tournament features seven teams playing four games each over a 10-day period in November at four sites.
Nebraska will be at home for all four of its games. The University of Nebraska at Omaha also is in the field, but will play all four games on the road.
Nebraska will host Valaparaiso (22-12) on Nov. 15, UNO (11-18) on Nov. 18, Tulane (15-16) on Nov. 21 and Kent State (21-12) on Nov. 24.
UNO’s other games will be at Tulane on Nov. 16, and then two at Valparaiso on Nov. 23-24. The first opponent is Bethune-Cookman. The second will be Valparaiso or Chicago State.
“Slippery Joe” Cipriano was Nebraska’s head coach from 1963-80. He died of cancer just before his 18th season. He was a three-time Big Eight coach of the year, and his career record was 253-197.
