One team in the American Legion Class A Senior state championship game aims to repeat as state champion.
The other is going after its first title in 25 years.
That's what's at stake Saturday at 7 p.m. at Fricke Field as host Pinnacle Bank (Papillion-La Vista) takes on PI Midwest (Omaha Creighton Prep). Pinnacle Bank hasn't won the Legion crown since 1987 while PI Midwest goes after its second in a row after defeating Grand Island Home Federal in 2011.
The teams qualified for the state championship after capturing division titles earlier this week. Pinnacle Bank won the American Division in Kearney by defeating the PrimeTime Patriots (Millard South) 15-5 in the final while PI Midwest beat KB Building Services (Omaha Westside) 9-0 for the National Division title at Omaha Burke.
Pinnacle Bank (45-8) enters the game with added incentive - Jim Thomas will step aside following this season after 39 years as head coach.
