UNDERWOOD, Iowa - Katelynn Dilts didn't throw a no-hitter. But the pitcher and her Underwood teammates still did more than enough to keep their softball season going.
Dilts gave up a first-inning run to Council Bluffs St. Albert, then settled down to strike out eight batters during the team's Iowa Class 2-A regional opener Tuesday evening. Her teammates did the rest as the Eagles cruised to an 11-1 victory that went six innings.
"We all just got fired up hitting," Dilts said. "That helped me, too."
Underwood (20-15) got the push it needed after falling behind 1-0 when Libby Mattingly sent an RBI single into right field. The Eagles responded with a seven-run second that included six hits, a hit batter and two runs scoring on wild pitches.
Dilts, a junior, scattered three hits and didn't allow a Sainte to reach third base after the first frame. The hurler sent St. Albert home without a hit last year.
