DICKINSON, N.D. - Defending national champion Eden Prairie (Minn.) scored six runs in the top of the ninth Friday night to defeat PI Midwest (Omaha Creighton Prep) 9-7 at the American Legion Central Plains Regional tournament.
It was the first loss of the double-elimination tournament for PI Midwest, which will play Brookings, S.D., at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in a losers bracket game.
It was 3-3 when Eden Prairie sent 11 batters to the plate in the final inning, taking advantage of three PI Midwest errors. Kent Curran, who had a two-run single in the seventh inning, put Eden Prairie ahead in the ninth with an RBI double.
The six-run ninth put Eden Prairie ahead 9-3, but PI Midwest rallied to score four runs with two out in the bottom of the inning. Taylor Elman drove in two with a double, Evan Ryan had an RBI single and another run scored on an outfield error.
