SHELBY, N.C. - PI Midwest (Omaha Creighton Prep) stayed alive at the American Legion World Series on Sunday with an 8-2 win against Florence, S.C.
All four games Sunday were shortened to seven innings because of Saturday's rain, which pushed the schedule back.
Coach Pat Mooney's squad improved to 51-9 and will play another elimination game Monday. PI Midwest's opponent and the game time were to be determined after the conclusion of the late game Sunday night.
"We're still going," Mooney said. "The guys are really happy, coming back from that loss we suffered yesterday."
PI Midwest grabbed an early advantage with a five-run second inning. A three-run fourth made it 8-0, which proved to be more than enough for starter Mason Raburn.
Zack Garrett led off the second with a walk and Adam Wilson followed with a double, putting runners on second and third. An infield error scored two runs, a sacrifice fly by Evan Ryan scored another and Cale Dineen stole home on the back end of a double steal.
