The students at Omaha Creighton Prep couldn’t attend the American Legion World Series to support their team Friday morning, but they did the next best thing.
Students assembled in the school’s Commons area to watch part of the game between Prep (PI Midwest) and Lakewood, Calif. It was being streamed live on ESPN3 and was hooked up to a big screen at Prep for all to see.
About 800 students cheered the home team as Prep, trying to become just the second Nebraska team ever to win the Legion World Series, posted an 8-4 win in the first-round game played in Shelby, N.C. After the game, PI Midwest coach Pat Mooney said photos of the raucous student section were texted to North Carolina and shown to the players between one of the innings.
“That really got our guys fired up,” Mooney said. “It was great to see that.”
Support from half a continent away? Nice job, Prep!
