NEW ORLEANS — Former Husker Maurice Purify caught a record seven touchdown passes and the Arizona Rattlers won the Arena Bowl 72-54 over the Philadelphia Soul on Friday night.
Arizona won its third league championship and first since 1997.
Purify, who averaged a league-best 128.8 yards receiving per game this season, had nine catches for 143 yards and broke the previous record of five scoring catches. Purify played for the Huskers in 2006 and ’07. He also suited up for five games with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2009.
Rattlers quarterback Nick Davila tied an Arena Bowl record with nine touchdown passes. He completed 23 of 30 passes for 266 yards.
