A new NCAA rule approved in April 2011 granted Nebraska and other FBS programs the ability to add two more graduate assistants to the coaching staff this August. One of them is former Husker quarterback Joe Ganz, who served an an intern under offensive coordinator Shawn Watson in 2010, and current coordinator Tim Beck last year. Ganz will work with quarterbacks.
New defensive graduate assistant Jake Mandelko will work with defensive backs. Mandelko played at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he earned The World-Herald’s honorary captain spot on the 2009 All-Nebraska Division II football team. Ganz and Mandelko join current graduate assistants Vince Marrow (tight ends) and T.J. Hollowell (linebackers). All four can make recruiting calls on behalf of NU and instruct players during practice time.
