The sophomore cornerback is listed at 5-foot-11 and 155 pounds, but an increased understanding of the NU defensive scheme has him playing bigger than ever. Mitchell played in eight games (starting one) during an up-and-down 2011 season. He hopes that his role will increase this fall.

Q: Do you feel more comfortable now?

A: I feel a lot more comfortable than I did last year. I feel like I really know my stuff.

Q: So where are you working? Corner? Second team?

A: Yeah. I'm all over the place right now, just bouncing around, just trying to get my reps where I can find them.

Q: You getting involved in practice more? Are you to the point where you feel like you can communicate and be confident in talking to guys?

A: Definitely. I feel more vocal. I've grown up. I really know the defense. And I'm more confident in our plays, so I can communicate with the guys.
