Kirkland's, a specialty retailer of home décor and gifts, will open a store in the L Street Marketplace near 120th and L Streets just in time for the holiday shopping season.

This spring, the shopping center will also welcome a 4,000 square-foot mattress store called The Mattress People.

Andy Kutilek, who works for Magnum Development as the property manager for the L Street Marketplace, said Kirkland's will open in a 9,200-square-feet space near Anytime Fitness sometime this fall. The retailer is accepting applications at the new store Wednesday and Thursday. Applications are available on the company's website at www.kirklands.com.

A spokesman for Kirkland's was not immediately available for comment.

"With those two additions, we will have a 91 percent occupancy rate," Kutilek said.

Kirkland's, which offers framed art, mirrors, candles, lamps, decorative accessories, accent furniture, textiles, garden-related accessories and artificial floral products, has nearly 300 stores across the country.

Metro Omaha's only Kirkland's was part of Village Pointe Shopping Center near 168th Street and West Dodge Road when it opened in 2004 but it later closed.
