auditorium steel prospect is good
August 20, 1951: Barring unforeseen difficulties - like all-out war - Omaha had an even chance of getting steel for its new auditorium. This was the report from Leo Daly, Jr., auditorium architect. "The fact that we don't need our steel until the second or third quarter of 1952 improves our chances of getting it," Daly said. Because of high steel demands from industries tooling for defense, the National Production Authority controlled requests for non-essential use. Omaha would not need its steel until late in 1952 because the four-block site must be cleared and prepared first, Daly explained.
