LINCOLN - Not long after he signed a national letter of intent Friday morning, sealing his intentions to transfer to Nebraska, Jonathan Rose was trying to map out the best driving route from central Alabama to the Huskers' campus.

"Fifteen hours," he said. "We're trying to figure it out."

A long way from home. But at this point in Rose's life, he says he's ready for new direction.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound cornerback, one of the nation's top defensive backs in the 2011 class, temporarily left Auburn's program in May - and permanently parted ways after meeting with the Tigers' staff earlier this month.

The specifics behind Rose's departure are unclear, publicly characterized as "personal" reasons. Rose's father, Charles, called it the "old chapter" that's now closed. Jonathan said "a lot of stuff" transpired.

Whatever occurred, it's not something that needs to be revisited, the family says.

Rose is ready to move on.
