Republic of Couture is closing its doors for good Wednesday, less than two years since opening, an employee has confirmed.

The employee said the store was being packed up and it wouldn't open for business Thursday.

The urban, boutique-style "mini-department store," opened its ninth store in the country at Midtown Crossing at 33rd and Farnam Streets in December 2010.

The 10,000-square-foot store was the largest for the fashion-forward chain. Other stores are in cities including Minneapolis and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Republic of Couture carries clothing and accessories for men, women and children.

Midtown Crossing officials could not be reached for comment.

Other businesses that have been short-lived at Midtown Crossing include Loft 610 restaurant, Portovino Ristorante, Parliament Pub and Blanc Burgers + Bottles.
