The Bellevue Public Schools had to take down its website this week, just before school resumes on Tuesday.

The website was infected with a virus on July 31 and information technology workers have been unable to "cure" it.

No student or staff information was comprised, the district said, with email accounts and staff management systems are protected.

IT workers have been working around the clock to try to identify the virus and stop it, said Amanda Anderson, communications specialist for Bellevue Public Schools.

The website was up and running a few periods of time after July 31, with the longest at 13 hours on Monday this week before the virus took hold again Tuesday morning. So the website had to be taken down, Anderson said.

"It's inconvenient and sad, having it down when people need it the most."

Rather than repair the old website, which Anderson said is "trashed," the district speeded launch of the homepage for the new website it was planning to release in October.
