Diverse events keep north downtown bars on toes

After the College World Series, the Olympic swim trials and the Fourth of July, the new Blatt Beer & Table closed for a few days.

Though the bar and restaurant in Omaha's north downtown area had been open for less than a month, the hardwood floors took such a beating that they already needed to be replaced, said Anthony Hitchcock, director of operations for Flagship Restaurant Group, which owns the Blatt.

Hitchcock didn't have an exact count of how many customers had trampled the bar's floors since it opened June 11. But the business went through 40,000 wristbands during the CWS. On June 16, its busiest day so far, it sold 14,000 cans of Coors Light and Corona alone - so many that they arranged for an emergency delivery to avoid running out.

Business, especially for meals, continued to be brisk throughout the swim trials, held June 25 through July 2 at the CenturyLink Center.
