COUNCIL BLUFFS - When students lined up last week at Council Bluffs' two public high schools, they didn't just fill out the usual registration forms and pose for ID photos.

Each student also picked up one of the 2,800 new take-home Chromebook laptop computers the district is distributing to students in grades nine through 12.

To help provide tech support for so many computers, the school district this summer built cafe-style tech support centers in Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson High Schools and will train students to help staff the centers, working with professional technicians.

Students and even parents will be able to get help with questions, concerns and repairs when they need it.

The student staffers - they will number roughly 60 over the course of the year between the two schools - will get class credit for the elective course as well as real-world experience in the high-tech field.
