LINCOLN - Everything you wanted to know about Nebraska's state parks is available now on a mobile app.
Users of Apple iPhones and iPads can now access information on all of Nebraska's 74 state park lands by downloading the free Pocket Ranger app from iTunes.
The new, customized iPhone app provides interactive GPS and GIS Map technology for tracking trails, marking waypoints and locating landmarks, said Pat Engelhard, Game and Parks web content producer.
Other features include a constantly updated events calendar, social networking capabilities and a tool that allows users to publish and share photos. Park visitors can locate friends in the parks and can search for specific parks within a particular region or retrieve information from a comprehensive list of activities.
A lifesaving alert feature provides GPS coordinates to designated emergency contacts.
A GeoChallenge feature offers geocachers activities and games to guide them to little-known scenic areas across Nebraska.
Future plans include an expanded application for hunters and anglers, an Android version release and a mobile website format for BlackBerry users.
