Finally, the rain dance worked.

Rain fell in a number of Omaha area neighborhoods Tuesday night - the best rainfall since June - and offered a reminder of what else a thunderstorm can bring: high winds, power outages and minor street flooding.

Many neighborhoods saw little more than sprinkles, but others were soaked with about an inch of rain. West of Omaha, the National Weather Service office in Valley measured .01 of an inch, while Offutt Air Force Base, to the south, reported .97 of an inch. Eppley Airfield, Omaha's official reporting station, saw .45 of an inch of rain.

The gods this summer had not been kind to Omaha.

Amid a drought-parched nation, the city sits in one of the pockets where it's been particularly dry. Decent rains had fallen north of town, and scattered storms had dropped significant moisture to the south.
