Katrina Burk's daughter, 5 1/2, asked to go to a movie last week.
"I said I didn't think there was anything we both would like," said Burk, of Omaha. "She can go see 'Brave' just so many times."
Katrina Olsen's son, 5, knew what he wanted to see.
"He says the whole title: 'The Dark Knight Rises,'" Olsen said, thanks to movie-related toys at fast-food outlets. But the Omaha mom decided the latest Batman movie, rated PG-13, was much too violent. "Can't go see that one, buddy," she told him.
It's been a long, relatively dry movie summer for parents of little ones and families who want to see a new movie together. The last G rated movies to hit screens in Omaha were "To the Arctic" and "Chimpanzee" on April 20. PG movies have also been rare, averaging about one new title every three weeks.
